Verse 1
देवनागरी
विष्णु विष्णु बीज मन्त्र।
सुमिरत मिटि जात भव-कष्ट॥
जगपति पालक दीनबंधु।
तुम सम और न दूजा बंधु॥
Transliteration
Vishnu Vishnu beej mantra
Sumirat miti jaat bhav-kasht
Jagpati paalak deenbandhu
Tum sam aur na doojaa bandhu
Meaning
The seed-mantra Vishnu, Vishnu — by remembering it, the suffering of worldly existence falls away. Lord of the world, sustainer, friend of the destitute — there is no other companion equal to you.

Verse 2
देवनागरी
चार भुजा अति शोभा पावे।
शंख चक्र गदा पद्म सुहावे॥
सुर-नर-मुनि अति प्रेम लगावै।
हो पुलकित जब विष्णु ध्यावै॥
Transliteration
Chaar bhujaa ati shobhaa paave
Shankh chakra gadaa padma suhaave
Sur-nar-muni ati prem lagaavai
Ho pulakit jab Vishnu dhyaavai
Meaning
Four-armed, you shine in supreme glory — the conch, discus, mace, and lotus adorn you. Gods, men, and sages turn to you with fervent love; their bodies thrill when they meditate upon Vishnu.

देवनागरी
पीताम्बर तन शोभा भारी।
श्री वत्स छाती लोक-उजारी॥
मेरु पर्वत जब है डोला।
लिन्ह कूर्म रूप तब प्रभु बोला॥
Transliteration
Peetaambar tan shobhaa bhaaree
Shri Vats chhaatee lok-ujaaree
Meru parvat jab hai dolaa
Linh Koorm roop tab Prabhu bolaa
Meaning
Yellow silks shine majestically on your body; the Shrivatsa upon your chest illumines the world. When Mount Meru tottered, the Lord took the form of the tortoise (Kurma) — so it is told.

देवनागरी
दशावतार लिए जग पाले।
भक्तन के सब कष्ट निकाले॥
यह विष्णु चालीसा गावे।
सो जन वैकुण्ठ पद पावे॥
Transliteration
Dashaavataar lie jag paale
Bhaktan ke sab kasht nikaale
Yah Vishnu chaaleesaa gaave
So jan Vaikunth pad paave
Meaning
Through the ten avatars you sustained the world, removing every distress of your devotees. Whoever sings this Vishnu Chalisa attains the abode of Vaikuntha.
