Kundli & Birth Chart Calculators

Work out the pieces of your birth chart one at a time — ascendant, moon sign, nakshatra, divisional charts and the live planetary positions behind them.

A janam kundli is one diagram carrying several separate measurements, and most confusion about Vedic astrology comes from collapsing them into one. The ascendant is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth minute; it sets the house framework and it moves a full sign every two hours. The Moon sign is where the Moon sat; it is what an Indian astrologer means by "your rashi" and what every rashifal is written for. The Sun sign is a third thing again, and in sidereal terms it is usually one sign earlier than the Western one you already know.

Below those three sit the finer divisions. The zodiac splits 27 ways into nakshatras and each of those into four padas — a grid fine enough to distinguish two people who share a Moon sign, which is why matchmaking and dasha both run off it rather than off the rashi. Finer still are the divisional charts, which re-slice each sign into 7, 9, 10, 12, 16, 24, 30 or 60 parts, each read for one department of life.

The tools here compute each of those pieces separately so you can see where a number comes from rather than being handed a finished reading. Start with the Moon sign if you have only a date, or the ascendant if you have a recorded birth time.
