How it works
The date-based numbers come from reducing digits: the day alone gives the Mulank, the whole date gives the Bhagyank. The name-based numbers come from a letter-to-number table — all letters give the expression number, vowels alone give the soul urge, consonants alone give the personality. Each row links to the page that explains that number properly.
Step by step
- The day of birth alone is reduced to one digit — that is the Mulank.
- The full date, all eight digits, is reduced to one digit — that is the Bhagyank.
- Every letter of the name is converted using the standard table and summed, then reduced — the Expression number.
- The vowels alone give the Soul Urge; the consonants alone give the Personality. The two rebuild the Expression between them.
A worked example
Input: Born 14 July 1993, named Pankaj Bhardwaj
- Day 14 → 1 + 4 = 5 → Mulank 5
- 1+4+0+7+1+9+9+3 = 34 → 3 + 4 = 7 → Bhagyank 7
- All letters of the name reduce to the Expression number
Result: Five numbers, each read for something different, from one submission.
How to read your result
- The date numbers carry more weight in Indian practice
- Mulank and Bhagyank are fixed for life and are where an ank jyotish reading starts. The three name numbers come from Western numerology and describe expression rather than direction.
- Name numbers can change; date numbers cannot
- This is precisely why name-correction practice exists and why no equivalent exists for the date-based numbers.
- Tables differ, so answers differ
- Pythagorean and Chaldean letter tables assign different values. Two sites can both be internally correct and still disagree on a name number.
